How to Check off Your Bucket List on a Tight Budget

Whether we have written them down or not, the vast majority of us have dreams and goals. There are places we want to travel to, perhaps a home, car, or motorcycle we want to buy, an amazing cruise to go on, sky diving, swimming with sharks, climbing Mt. Everest, etc. Whatever our dreams are on our bucket lists, there are often obstacles that may be holding us back from accomplishing them.

A few things that are still on my bucket lists are: to travel around Europe, to explore the New Zealand south island, to go sailing in the French Polynesian Islands, to own a cabin in the woods, and to return to Alaska and see the Aurora Borealis.

How to plan to cross items off your bucket list.

Calculate how much your bucket list item will cost you and start socking away the money you can afford to on a weekly or monthly basis. Then when you calculate that you will have saved up the money needed to accomplish your dream, put the date you will GO or DO it on all of your calendars. It is much easier to accomplish a goal when it is written down.

I once heard the phrase, ” Life by the inch is a cinch… Life by the yard is hard”. It is not only true with life, but it is also true with savings. Saving $100-$200 a month for a year or two is much easier than finding an extra $2,400.00 in a single month to spend on a vacation.

I encourage you to sit down just you, you and your spouse, or whomever you want to accomplish a dream with and rework your budget. Cut some unnecessary items out and save that money in order to make your dreams come true.

You don’t have to wait until the kids are out of the house or until you retire to start living your dreams. Put a realistic sum of money aside and set the date. Write the bucket list item on the date you plan on having enough saved to accomplish it on your calendar.

Living on a budget doesn’t have to be boring or super restrictive. It’s simply choosing where you want to save and spend. Start saving specifically to spend on moments and things that you’ve dreamed to do. And keep setting aside money for emergencies so you won’t dip into your bucket list fund either.

Doing these things, even on a tight budget can help you find ways to save money and start crossing off your bucket list dreams.

First off, I think the photos in this blog post are fantastic! They definitely add some great visualization to what it means to have, and work off, a bucket list.

I've had a list since my senior year of high school, although it keeps changing. I have discovered, however, that it's possible to knock things off pretty quickly when you simply make an effort to do it.

Great blog and keep up the writing!
